Dear Salsa Machine Member,

I hope all is well and good with you.

I will keep this page updated with the most recent, relevant, and useful information that I find. I am doing this in an attempt to keep our community informed. It’s not always easy to keep track of multiple sources of information, so I hope this helps.

A section near the start shows exactly what the government are trying to achieve with waves of the COVID-19 sweeping the population through the next year – very informative.

Meanwhile, I have a few ideas on how to serve the Salsa Machine community, and also help our members in a time of need.

1) I would like to promote a sharing and caring paradigm in light of shortages.
We can reassure each other that we are not going to run out of anything. Our health workers and teachers need to be able to buy food at the end of a long day.

2) I have created a Salsa Machine WhatsApp Group.

This Group is for community discussion among Salsa Machine members. Everyone is welcome, so please just let me know if you'd like to join, and I will send you an invitation – or you can be invited by another member.
There is no agenda for this Group. You can talk about the cool new move you learned, or toilet rolls, it's up to you.

3) Group Classes will start shortly online with a video-conferencing app, Zoom.
We started with free lessons already, and it works well.
I’ll announce in SMS WhatsApp Group for up and coming classes.

4) Private Lessons.
I am continuing with Private Lessons via video link using the excellent Zoom platform.

There is no setup or installation required, and you can use a mobile phone, tablet, laptop or PC. You can have multiple devices linked simultaneously if you like. Use of Zoom is free to you as I have an account.

The advantages are there is no travel, and you can do lessons in the comfort of your own home. It's slightly different, but good fun, and will help you continue progression and maintain sanity. It's definitely worth trying and seeing if you like it :-)

If you have any questions, please just ask.

MY OWN PERSONAL MESSAGE

If you found this message a bit depressing, I urge you to search for cat videos on YouTube. You will soon be crying again, but this time with laughter.

If that doesn't help, think of this. Nothing ever happens to us. The Universe goes about its business, and then we come along and disturb it. It's us that always happens to everything else. This is a good view to take, and hopefully, that helps you feel like you are the force in your life. Further, if you can get your head around that, then you can view everything that does happen as happening for us. For us to experience, learn, create, find, grow, and all of those things that add up to transcendence to the next and better, happier, version of ourselves. That paragraph wasn't meant to be quite that deep…so please view another cat video.

I would love to hear your opinions, advice and feedback. All words are very welcome and will be of help to me.

Although I have an alien knot in my stomach that twists inopportunely, I remind myself that I am blessed to be part of a beautiful, vibrant, and life-affirming community of dancers. Dancing, and my Salsa club, is part of my DNA now, so the people of the dance community mean everything to me.

Please accept my sincere and heartfelt thanks for your support, loyalty and “being part of”. It means more to me and my Team than you can know.

Please browse the links below – they are the most useful sources of information that I have discovered.
I love you all, and I am sending you huge best wishes.
Warm regards, Ben.

PS. I am continuing with Private Lessons as normal.

TThe best sources of information that I have read are:

1) NHS website giving an overview with headings:
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19
This very well organised and clear.

2) Government Blog (GOV.UK) written by PHE (Public Health England):
https://publichealthmatters.blog.gov.uk/2020/01/23/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-what-you-need-to-know
The next blog post is accessible here:
https://publichealthmatters.blog.gov.uk

3) NHS resource of common questions and advice:
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/common-questions

4) Self-isolation advice:
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice/

5) I found this excellent article on washing hands:
https://www.unicef.org/coronavirus/everything-you-need-know-about-washing-your-hands-protect-against-coronavirus-covid-19

6) USEFUL LOCAL HEALTH CHECK
The Harpenden Memorial Hospital has a temporary drive-through COVID-19 testing facility - as of posting this, appointments are by referral from NHS 111.

I hope this has been helpful. I would love to have your feedback if something is not clear, or you believe is inaccurate.

Warm regards and much love, Ben, on behalf of the Team.
